.. My Second week on internship.
On Monday I continued working on my illustrations. I needed to make sure that the detail of each drawing matched the ethnic origin. I also continued to look for ideas for the buttons for
rajul website, keeping in mind the colour code & graphic charte of the
Rajul Paris. I kept my ideas for the buttons relatively close in form to the original ones but played on the typography.
Tuesday I continued on both of these projects. Rachael explained that the buttons should have a handmade look to them so I used inks to create a watercolour feel to the buttons and decided to paint one main form in the style of the graphics on
Rajul’s website. After scanned & ready to work on the computer. Rachael then briefed me on the next project I’d be working on, designing gift certificates cards.
Wednesday – While Rachael was teaching in Paris I worked from home. I needed to stylise the illustrations of the girls. Then I continued working on the website buttons. I took the scanned image and searched for different type faces that would be suited to the style of the website and used Photoshop to position them on the curved forms. Then I did a research and brainstorming on different department stores’ gift cards. With what I saw in mind I started doing roughs looking for ideas of designs I could develop.
Thursday morning I continued my research on gift certificate. In the afternoon I went in the place of Rachael to a conference about copywriting in France. It was my first conference of this kind! The topic was very interesting and I learnt a lot about things I didnt know existed, like ‘Soleau’ envelopes. I took notes for Rachael throughout to report back!
Friday – this morning I went back to work with Rachael. I continued my illustrations. Then I went with Rachael to a meeting she had with clients in town. She is working on a website for a conference. I enjoyed this experience. It was good to see first hand what happens in a meeting like that! I am now finishing up my illustrations and buttons before the weekend!

La deuxième semaine…
Lundi j’ai continué à faire les illustrations. Je devais être sure que les caractéristiques du visage et les vêtements de chaque fille allait bien avec leur ‘origine éthnique’. J’ai cherché des idées pour les boutons pour le site
www.rajul.fr. J’ai cherché des idées en tenant compte le code couleur et charte graphique du site. Mes idées pour les boutons étaient assez proches en forme des boutons originaux mais j’ai voulu jouer avec la typographie.
Mardi – J’ai continué à travailler sur ces deux projets. Rachael m’a expliqué que les boutons devaient avoir un aspect artisanat et fait à la main donc je me suis servie des encres pour donner un aspect d’aquarelles et j’ai décidé de peindre qu’une seule forme dans le style du site de
Rajul Paris. Rachael m’a fait un brief pour le prochain projet – une carte cadeau pour Rajul Paris!
Mercredi – Pendant que Rachael donnait ses cours à Paris j’ai travaillé chez moi. J’ai stylisé les illustrations des filles. Puis j’ai continué sur les boutons du site web. J’ai pris les images scannées et j’ai cherché des typos différentes qui pourrait aller bien avec le style du site, et j’ai utilisé Photoshop afin de positionner les mots sur les formes arrondies. J’ai ensuite recherché des axes cartes cadeaux des magasins différents en France et à l’étranger pour voir à quoi ressemble leurs cartes.
Jeudi matin j’ai dessiné des idées pour la carte cadeau sur Indesign. L’après midi je suis allée dans une conférence sur le thème de protection des dessins et modèles. C’était ma première conférence de ce genre! Le sujet était très intéressant et j’ai beaucoup appris sur des choses que je ne savais pas exister, comme les envelopes Soleau. J’ai pris des notes pour Rachael afin de lui faire un compte rendu!
Vendredi – ce matin j’ai fait un compte rendu de la conférence d’hier. J’ai continué à travailler sur la stylisation des illustrations et sur les boutons. Ensuite j’ai accompagné Rachael à un rendez vous Client avec l’un de ces clients en ville. Elle va crée un site web pour une conférence. J’ai bien aimé cette réunion. C’était bien de voir ce que se passe dans un rendez vous entre graphiste et client en vrai! Là je fini mes illustrations et les boutons avant que le weekend commence!

Hi! My name is Kathy I’m interning under the direction of Rachael Hampton from Ardephwerk for the month of June 2009.
Monday morning, my first day on the job… I was given a brief for the projects I’d be working on this week. My first task was to design a logo for the »Handmade Showroom‘. I got some ideas down on paper, trying to give a hand drawn, sketchy look took the type face. I then scanned and drew up the chosen desgin on Illustrator.
I also got to know Soleil the little tabby cat who likes the heat from my Macbook!
It was a good first day…
While Rachael was teaching at Paris on Wednesday and Thursday, I worked on two projects from home. The first project is to design 4 planches of illustrations representing girls from different ethnics for Rajul Paris. Each girl needs to then be Cazy, Cool, Chic, and Creative, Rajul Paris‘ baseline. Each illustration will then be used to display the creator’s accessories and bags.
I went to do some roughs and research at the ‘Médiathèque’. I chose different photos of models posing keeping in mind the baseline, and I drew them up.
I also started brainstorming for the second project, which is to redesign the ‘buttons’ on the website www.rajul.fr
Today is Friday….This morning I showed Rachael the drawings I had done over the past two days. She explained how the illustrations should be and showed me different fashion magazines. After Rachael took photos of us sporting Mickey Mouse glasses and a trip downstairs to see a Jules Verne parade, it was back to work!
I went through the magazines looking for photos of different modern poses which I drew up on paper.
I will then scan them and start to illustrate them on my computer.

Moi c’est Kathy, et je suis stagiaire sous la responsabilité de Rachael Hampton de ‘Ardephwerk‘ pour le mois de juin!
Lundi matin, mon premier jour au boulot!… Rachael m’a donné mon brief pour les projets sur lesquels je devrais travailler cette semaine! Mon premier boulot était de créer un logo pour la salon ‘Handmade Showroom‘. J’ai mis des idées sur papier, en essayant de donner un aspect artisanat et fait à la main. Ensuite, j’ai scanné et dessinée sur Illustrator le dessin choisi.
J’ai également fait connaissance avec Soleil le chat qui aime la chaleur que dégage mon Macbook!
C’était une bonne journée!
Pendant que Rachael enseignait sur Paris mercredi et jeudi, j’ai travaillé deux projets chez moi. Le premier projet consister de faire 4 planches d’illustrations représentant des filles des éthnies différentes pour Rajul Paris. Les filles doivent être ‘Crazy’ (Ludique), ‘Cool’, ‘Chic’ et ‘Créative’, le baseline de Rajul Paris. Chaque illustration sera ensuite utilisée pour afficher les accessoires et les sacs de la marque.
Je suis partie dessiner et rechercher des idées à la Médiathèque de Nantes. J’ai choisi des photos différentes des mannequins qui posent.
J’ai aussi commencé à chercher des idées pour le deuxième projet ce qui est à refaire les boutons sur le site www.rajul.fr.
Aujourd’hui on est vendredi… Ce matin j’ai montré à Rachael les dessins que j’ai fait pendant ces deux derniers jours. Elle m’a expliqué comment elle imagine les illustrations et m’a montré des différents magazines de mode. Après que Rachael nous a prit en photo avec des lunettes de Mickey Mouse et une petite sortie voir un défilé de Jules Verne, c’était au boulot!.
J’ai cherché dans les magazines pour des photos de différents poses modernes que j’ai ensuite dessiné sur papier. Je vais les scanner et les illustrer sur mon ordi.

I would like to present to you Intern – Stagiaire Kathy. Her first day on the job during this lovely holiday.
I guess we are the only ones working today. Intern Kathy will be working with me ( Rachael Hampton )under my direction for the Month of June 2009.
